Interactive exercise and lifestyle program ‘Wii want to be fit’

To get children to exercise more and raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, Embedded Fitness and home care organization ZuidZorg have developed a lifestyle program that involves exercise games.
Movement games are placed periodically for 4-8 weeks at a suitable location in or near a school (classroom). Grades 5 through 8 can use the interactive sports venue on a weekly basis. Group 7 also receives weekly lessons on healthy lifestyle from a dietician. Each group starts with a baseline measurement on healthy lifestyle knowledge (grade 7) and physical skills. The on-site setup can also be used by the BSO. Chosen is a location in the Woensel West neighborhood of Eindhoven, a power district where exercise poverty is high.

This project was approved by ZonMw as a sport impulse program.
The results are promising. The children enjoy it throughout the period and try very hard to improve scores. At all levels, the children made progress. Even the special education schools that have been visited, the children have made extraordinary progress and are very enthusiastic.

– SBO de Brandaan

Meanwhile, two more sports impulse applications were approved and implemented in 2015-2016 appropriate to this context.
Children at Sporting Weight, an intervention project for overweight children.
And Sports but different, with special heroes a project for low-income groups, focusing on interactive exercise in special education.
Both projects are in collaboration with Helmond municipality, JIBB, GGD, Zorgboog and Fontys Colleges.
The reactions and results mainly in special education were very positive.
This led to a follow-up project of Wii want to be Fit at special education schools in the province of Brabant with support from the province, and work is now underway on 4 interactive sports venues within the municipality of Helmond for youth and adults with disabilities. This involves ORO, JIBB, Antoon van Dijk School, Bundelzorg.
